Robert Shragal, 96, of rural Galesburg, died peacefully at home on June 22, 2018. Bob was born November 30, 1921 in St. David, Illinois, the son of Joseph Martin and Filipina (Sepic) Shragal. Bob graduated from Corpus Christi High School and served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He is survived by Catherine E. Bruketta, who he married on August 14, 1948 in Canton. Bob is also survived by his children Rita (Fred) Keeperman of Moraga, CA, Margaret (Steve) Tolley of Galesburg, Michael (Sarah Carey) Shragal of Danville, CA, David (Julie King) Shragal of Galesburg, and Phyllis (Larry) Mosnick of Crystal Lake, IL.; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 5 sisters. Bob was a lifelong farmer, “retiring “ in 2015. He was a charter member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He was a faithful Chicago Cubs and Norte Dame fan. Bob also enjoyed playing Solitaire and reading multiple newspapers daily. Throughout the years he and Cathy enjoyed traveling together to visit family and historical sites. Bob enjoyed reading historical books and talking politics. He was a great storyteller and shared his life stories with the many people he came in contact with. The rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory with visitation following from 5-7 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. William T. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Costa Catholic Academy or a charity of the donor’s choice.
