Robert Vinson Scotton, 72, of rural Galesburg, died on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home.
Bob was born October 15, 1951 in Camden, New Jersey, the son of Charles Harrison and Lenna (Polly) Mary (Vinson) Scotton. After graduating from Heidelberg American High School in West Germany in 1969, he studied philosophy at the University of Florida, University of Texas, and University of Nevada, being awarded his Bachelor’s Degree, Cum Laude, in Computer Science from Georgia State University in 1990. In the summer of 1980, Bob met Carol Robinson in Atlanta, Georgia, and they threw their lot in life together.
Bob moved to Knox County in 2005 where he took up the practice of the rural arts. He tried his hand at many plant propagation projects that have made the place he shared with Carol thrive. He continued his work in ferrocement and created amazing objects experimenting with various shapes and designs to express himself. He was a voracious reader with wide interests. As one small example, Bob read all six volumes of Carl Sandburg’s Abraham Lincoln when he found himself here on the prairie. He worked in photography, graphic design, and software engineering for various companies in Atlanta.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Carol Scotton of rural Galesburg and her large extended family all over the country. Also surviving are a brother, Chuck (Eileen) O’Brien of Colorado; a sister, Linda (Carl) Norris of New York; niece, Esther Bell of New York; and Josie Scotton of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph Scotton; and two dogs, Auggie and Frannie.
Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society or the Orpheum Theater. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
