Robert W. Mccoy, Sr.

Robert W. McCoy, Sr., 83, of Galesburg, died at 11:43p.m. Friday, July 19, 2013 at home. Robert was born February 22, 1930 in Davenport, IA, the son of Robert B. and Gladys L. (Ailes) McCoy.  He married Donna Lucille Peake on May 6, 1950 in Alexis.  She preceded him in death on July 27, 2004.  Robert is survived by two sons, Bob (Peggy) McCoy, Jr and Kevin (Margo) McCoy both of Galesburg; three daughters, Mary Langan of Phoenix, AZ, Kathy McCoy and Leslie (John Pampel) McCoy both of Galesburg; and three sisters, Esther Lester of San Antonio, TX, Jean West of Rock Island, and Marilyn Vaught of San Antonio, TX.  He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and two special friends, Pauline Melton and Cindy Hanna both of Galesburg.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; an infant son, Daniel; a brother, David McCoy; and a sister, Florence Carpenter. Robert served in Korea and Japan with the Army of Occupation.  He worked on farms for three years, and then went to work for Burlington Northern Railroad as a carman for 35 years, retiring in 1992. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Open Bible Church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Guardian Angels or the Knox County Humane Society.
