Roger E. Jones

Roger Eston Jones, 70, of Galesburg, passed away January 16, 2013 at 8:20 a.m. at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Roger was born July 13, 1942 in Burlington, IA at the Burlington Hospital to Dorothy (Fruit) Jones and Elmer Jones.  Roger’s father was killed at the Battle of the Bulge.  Roger’s mother Dorothy Avery also preceded him in death on January 20, 2010.  Roger is survived by a brother, Ron (and Cathy) Jones of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Mrs. Mary Jane (and Leon) Morris of Monmouth; and a sister-in-law, Gloria Jones of Maryland.  Aside from his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, William. At two years of age Roger went to live with his Aunt Eva (Jones) Rhodes and his Uncle Jesse Rhodes.  He resided with them until their passing.  He then moved to Plonka Terrace in Galesburg, where he lived until his death. Roger loved trains and country music.  He was a fan of sports, especially the Chicago Cubs and Bears, the Kansas City Royals, and he would become a St. Louis Cardinals fan if he was watching the game with a Cardinal fan.  He was an avid collector of baseball cards. Funeral services for Roger will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  Pastor Joe Olson will officiate.  Burial will follow in Vermont Cemetery, Vermont, IL.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral services Saturday at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home, Galesburg.  The family requests memorial contributions be directed to Plonka Terrace, 184 Maple Ave., Galesburg, IL 61401.
