Roy L. Sargent

Roy L. Sargent, 76, 1232 Frank St., Galesburg, died at 1:07 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Seminary Manor. Roy was born on March 16, 1933 in Lead, South Dakota, the son of C.L. and Esther Kimball Sargent. He married Helen Nichols on June 3, 1978. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2001. Surviving Roy are a step son, Dale (Mary) Nichols of Galesburg; a brother, Paul of California; and a sister, Grace M. (Ken) Goad of Galesburg. He was preceded by 2 brothers, Clark and Ned. Roy graduated from Mooseheart High School in Mooseheart and Barber School. He served in the US Army. He was a licensed barber with Gotchef Barbershop before working at Maytag, where he retired from after 30 years. He was of the Baptist faith.   Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Watson Funeral Home, with Pastor Kirk Kendall officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, with Military Honors conducted by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285 Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus, Moose charities scholarship fund, or donor’s choice.
