Ruth Ann Ball

Ruth Ann Ball, 81, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly a resident of Galesburg, Illinois, died Monday, August 12, 2024 at The Fountains Senior Living in Bettendorf.

She was born October 8, 1942 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of John Sheldon and Nettie Teresa (Norris) Combs. Ruth graduated from Spoon River Valley High School in 1960. She worked for Maytag for 35 years. Ruth married Kenneth Ball on November 11, 1961 in London Mills, Illinois. He preceded her in death July 30, 2020.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters: Stacy (Craig) Johnson of Bettendorf, and Kendel (Denis) Shenaut of Andover, Illinois; five grandchildren: Lindsay Wooldridge, Rachel (Justin) Coonts, Morgan Martin (Travis Stratton), Mackenzie (Dylan) Warren, and Austin Shenaut; two great grandkids: Brooklynn and Ryker Coonts; and all of her grand and great grand pets, which she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Kenneth; two brothers: Richard and David Combs; and two sisters: Lorraine Earl and Letha Skow.

In her younger years, she liked bowling. Ruth had many talents, ranging from ceramics, crocheting, and sewing. She enjoyed listening to music, shopping, collecting antiques, and playing weekly card games with her friends. Ruth was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at The Fountains Senior Living Community and St. Croix Hospice for their care and support during this difficult time.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Galesburg. Chaplain Michelle Pyskaty will officiate. A celebration of life will follow from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Thomas Legacy Center, 1849 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
