Shirley J. Jacobson

Shirley Joan (Haskins) Jacobson, 92, Galesburg, Illinois died Monday, July 25, 2022 in Galesburg. She was 92, born August 11,1929 in Galesburg to parents Earl Sr. and Ruth Haskins of Galesburg, IL. She graduated from Galesburg High School in 1947, married Donald W. Jacobson of Galesburg in 1947, in Long Beach, CA. She is survived by her children Stephanie (Rod) Brake of Galesburg, Paul (Ramona) Jacobson of Galesburg, and Amy Schwalm of Madison, MS. Her grandchildren Doug Wilmot of Bloomingdale, IL, Rachel (Steve) Carpenter of Kenosha, WI, Rebecca (Matt) Horn of Bartonville, IL, Luke (Victoria) Schwalm of Madison, AL, Adam (Kelli) Schwalm of Owens Crossroads, AL; and great-grandson Max Schwalm of Madison, AL. She is proceeded in death by her parents, husband, sister Lavonne Monson, sister Helen Swanson, brother Earl Haskins Jr., son-in-law John David Schwalm, nieces and nephews. Shirley enjoyed collecting and refurbishing antiques; she was an accomplished seamstress and she liked passing the time with needle-work projects. She was a very good pianist, playing for the acapella choir of Galesburg High School. She also really enjoyed music, found it soothing to hear music in the background at her home, and she loved reading and purchasing books. Shirley was a very caring grandmother and a visit or phone call with one of her grandkids always brightened her day. She will be greatly missed by all of her family. Cremation will be accorded by Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to FISH Food Pantry of Galesburg, IL, and Knox County Humane Society, Galesburg, IL.
