Shirley L. Coughlin, age 73 of 2025 E. Lincoln, Bloomington, formerly of Galesburg, died at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006 at her residence. She was born August 23, 1932 in Moline, Illinois to Vincent and Mona Chambers Carss. She married John J. “Jack” Coughlin on February 14, 1953 in Moline, Illinois. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1999. She is survived by four sons: John Coughlin, Jr. of St. Mary’s Square, Galesburg, Greg Coughlin of Lincoln, Patrick (Karen) Coughlin of Normal and Shawn (Tina) Coughlin of Carlock; a daughter, Christine (Larry) Smith of Princeton; two brothers, Vincent (Benny) Carss Jr. of E. Moline and Richard Carss of Silvis; a sister, Delores Cummings of Massena, NY. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Carrie Fawer of Normal, Matthew Smith of Ft. Collins, CO, Lauren Coughlin of Normal, Coady Coughlin of Normal, Megan Sizemore of Carlock, and Travis Coughlin of Carlock and one great-grandson, Lucas Fawer of Normal. She was preceded in death by one sister. She was a secretary at a local insurance agency for several years and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Cursio, Teens Encounter Christ (TECH) in both Peoria and the Quad Cities, Special Persons Encounter Christ (SPEC) and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galesburg and its Altar and Rosary Society. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, March 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Watson Funeral Home with a wake service at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the St. Mary Square Living Center.
