Ssgt Michael L. Welsh

SSGT Michael L. Welsh, 72, of St. Robert, Missouri, died Monday, December 4, 2023 in St. Robert.

Mike was born May 22, 1951 in Galesburg, Illinois the son of William R. and Virginia Ann (Bradford) Welsh. Following high school, Mike enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, serving 4 years. After being home for a time, Mike enlisted in the United States Army where he served for 26 years, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired on November 30, 2011. While in the Army he served as an MP and a supply specialist. After retirement, Mike worked for 12 years at Fort Leonard Wood as a civilian where he oversaw supply chain.

Mike is survived by one son, Joshua (Jamie) Welsh of Altona, Illinois; three grandchildren; one brother, Mark (Renee) Welsh of East Galesburg, Illinois; and one sister, Cathy Baughman of Monmouth, Illinois. Along with his parents, Mike was preceded in death by one son, Eli in 1976; and one brother, Joseph on May 9, 2023.

Graveside services with military rites will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at St. Joseph Cemetery, Galesburg. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. No visitation is planned. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Disabled American Veterans.
