Stanley L. Smith

Stanley Louis Smith, 68, of Galesburg, passed away at home on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born April 8, 1954, in Galesburg, the son of Lloyd L. and Magadene (Semington) Smith. Stanley was reared and educated in Illinois. He met his one true love, Helen “Princy” Guerrero, at the age of 15. When Stanley was 18 years old, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Left to cherish his memory is his longtime partner of 53 years, Helen Guerrero of Galesburg; a son, Timothy Guerrero of Galesburg; four daughters: Sharon (Bill) Steckelberg of Collierville, Tennessee, Jennifer (Michael) Anderson of Galesburg, Kimberly Guerrero of Washington, and Traci (John Paul) Johnson of Seneca, Illinois. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren: Sophia, Jacob, Mikayla, Michael, Jr., Matthias, Maddox, Isaiah, Damian, Aniyah, Sari, Julianna, Sierra, Hailey, Ethan, and Sebastian; and three sisters: Bessie Smith of Florida, Gwen Smith of Texas, and Carmelia Brannon of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Larry, Cordell, and Marlo; a sister, Rhoda; a grandson, Jason Guerrero-Snell; and a granddaughter, Maliyah Guerrero. Smitty enjoyed cooking, listening to music, and fishing. He liked to sit out on his front porch in the warm weather and would strike up a conversation with any stranger that walked by. Stanley was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Galesburg. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation will be accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 13, 2022, at Bethany Baptist Church. Pastor Greg Bartlett will officiate. A funeral luncheon will follow the service at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Bethany Baptist Church.
