Stanley L. “Pappy” Duerre, 89, of 1594 Knox Station Rd, Knoxville, died at 11:19 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2007 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center. Stanley was born on February 28, 1918 in Burlington, IA, the son of Leroy R. and Amelia E. Otto Duerre. Surviving Stanley are 3 sons: Steven (Val), Michael, and John all of Galesburg; 1 daughter, Trudy K. Dunbar of Knoxville; 1 sister, Janet Isner of Silver Springs, MD; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Also surviving is a good friend Scotty. He worked at Gale Products for several years. He operated two small grocery stores in Galesburg, one on S. Academy St., and another at Whitesboro and North St. for several years. He also drove a bus for the City of Galesburg. He was a welder at Butler Mfg. and worked in the shipping department for 19 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of USWA #2629. Pappy was a devoted Cubs fan and gardener. He enjoyed visiting with people and loved animals. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2007 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday June 21, 2007 at Watson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center.
