Stanley Robert Sopher, 80, of Galesburg, died at 10:26 p.m. Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Stan was born June 10, 1937 in Victoria, the son of Vern and Alberta (Tucker) Sopher. He married Erma Jones. He later married Patty Huff. Stan married Lucinda J. McKee on November 21, 1988 in Keokuk, IA. She survives of Galesburg. Stan is also survived by one daughter, Lesa (Bob) McClay of Florida; four sons, Shawn Sopher, Shane Sopher of Abingdon, Blaine Sopher, and Shannon (Judy) Sopher of Galesburg; and his step children, Donnie Custer, Jr. of Galesburg, Larry Custer of St. Peters, MO, Robert (Brooke) Denniston of Canton, and Joshua (Meaghan) Denniston of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by a brother, Jon (Felicia) Sopher of Knoxville; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 8 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. Stan worked as a police officer for many years, working in Fulton Co., Knox Co., Farmington, and retired from Abingdon Police Department in 2001. Stan enjoyed working on cars and attending car shows. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family in care of Lucinda Sopher.
