Stephen R. Dowdall

Stephen R. Dowdall, 60, of 280 E. Losey St., Galesburg, formerly of 2500 N. Seminary St., died at 4:55 p.m .on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Heartland Health Care.  Stephen was born on January 10, 1948 in Crawford, England, the son of Sidney G. and Joan L. Chandler Dowdall.  Surviving are 3 brothers, David Dowdall of Monmouth, Patrick (Ellen) Dowdall of Table Grove, and Jamie (Janet) Dowdall of Mt. Carroll.  Also surviving are 4 nephews, 3 nieces, and 8 grand nephews and nieces.  Stephen graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Horticulture.  He was the manager of the WIU green house for many years.  He then moved to Riverside, CA, where he managed a nursery for 7 years, before moving back to Galesburg in 1992.  He served in the US Navy from February 17, 1969 to December 1, 1972, as a signalman on the USS MacKenzie.  A celebration of life open house will be from 1:30-3 p.m. on Sunday, April 19, 2008 at Heartland Health Care.  Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2008 at Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois.  Watson Funeral Home, Galesburg is in charge of arrangements.  Memorials may be made to the National Foundation for transplants or the Knox County Humane Society.
