Steven R. Armstrong

Steven R. Armstrong, 66, of Galesburg, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017, 5:19 PM, after a two and a half year battle with cancer, at his home with his wife and sister by his side.Steven was born on November 14, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois. He was the son of Francis "Frank" W. and Eloise S. Armstrong. He married the love of his life, Mary Mae Carreon on August 9, 2014 in Galesburg. Steven is survived by his loving wife, Mae; son Dusti R. (Katie) Armstrong of St. Louis; sister, Elaine (Terry) McDowell of East Galesburg; and brother, Frank E. (Adele) Armstrong of Salisbury, Mass. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother. Steven was a veteran of the United States Army, serving a tour during the Vietnam War. He belonged to the Carpenters Local Union 183 of Peoria. Steven worked as a commercial woodworker for Columbia Woodworking in Brooklyn, New York. Also, he worked as a trim carpenter, and worked heavy and highway for many years. Steven retired in 2013 after 30 years as a union carpenter.  Per Steven's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. No services will be held at this time. A private family celebration of Steven's life will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials in Steven's honor may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
