Steven Robert Lohmar

Steven Robert Lohmar, 68, of Galesburg, passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family at 11:10 AM, on Monday, February 12, 2018, at Marigold Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Galesburg. Steve was born September 10, 1949 in Galesburg. He was the son of Robert and Shirley (Hartt) Lohmar. Steve married the love of his life, Barbara Coulombe on September 14, 1991 at the Allen Park Baptist Church in Galesburg. Steve is survived by his wife; a sister, Lesley (Chuck) Meier of East Moline; and a nephew, Mike Meier of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; his grandparents; and his mother-in-law. Steve was a 1967 graduate of Galesburg High School. He attended Knox College where, he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1973. He then worked briefly for Gates Rubber Company and then held a position as a teacher for the KCCDD for 26 years, retiring in 2005. Steve was raised in the Christian faith and was a member of First Covenant Church. He was an avid reader of history and loved to read literature and study the Civil War and World War II. Steve was a skilled writer and loved poetry. Above all, Steve loved his wife, his family, and his Lord. Per Steve’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life is planned at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials in Steve’s honor may be donated to First Covenant Church, 1520 Jefferson St., Galesburg, IL 61401.
