Thelma Joan Hoosen Bloome, 82, of Knoxville, formerly of Galesburg, died at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville. Thelma was born October 12, 1933 in Maquon, the daughter of George C. and Mary Harmison Arnold. Thelma graduated from Williamsfield High School and Brown’s Business College. Thelma married Gene M. Hoosen on May 29, 1954 in Galesburg. Together they had three children, Ken (Becky) Hoosen of Galesburg, John (Christine) Hoosen of Wataga, and Debra (Tom) Rice of Colona. Gene preceded her in death on October 26, 1970. She later married Wilbur Bloome in 1981. He preceded her in death in 2005. Along with her children, Thelma is survived by two sisters, Helen Barber San Diego, CA and Virginia Brooks of Washington; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, 1 great granddaughter; 1brother, Dale Arnold; and 1 sister, Doris Renwick. After her children were raised, Thelma went to work at Union Savings and Loan and then First National Bank for several years. Thelma and Gene enjoyed riding horses for many years. She was also a member of Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society. Thelma enjoyed her garden and her Siamese cats. She enjoyed sending birthday and anniversary cards to everyone she knew. While her and Bill were able, they enjoyed dancing and traveling. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Rev. William T. Miller, IC will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Nursing Home.
