Theodore “Pete” Thierry, 86, of Galesburg, died at 5:27 a.m. Saturday, December 19, 2020 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. Pete was born August 19, 1934 in Galesburg, the son of Ollie and Mattie Thierry, Sr. He is survived by two sons, Theodore Thierry, Jr. of Springfield and Kevin Thierry of Phoenix, AZ; one daughter, Trudy Lynn Thierry of Phoenix, AZ; numerous grandchildren; one sister, Betty Jean Howard of Indianapolis, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews including a special niece who cared for him, Kim Thierry of Galesburg. Along with his parents, Pete was preceded in death by brothers, Ollie Thierry, Jr., McKinley, George, Willard, and Forest Boaz; and one sister, Mary Thierry. Pete was born and raised in Galesburg, playing numerous sports while attending GHS. He went on to play basketball at Monmouth College. Pete loved all things sports. He coached at Monmouth College in 1955. He coached the Galesburg Merchant’s for over 20 years. Pete spent many years volunteering his time at the Carver Center in Galesburg. He refereed and umpired many years. He will be long remembered as the greatest Silver Streaks fan, if there was a game going on, you bet Pete could be found near-by. Pete was inducted to the Galesburg High School Athletic Hall of Fame, volunteered as a Streaks’ Dad for many years, and was a faithful member of the Galesburg Athletic Booster Club. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and attended many games. Pete worked as a supervisor at Maytag in Galesburg for 45 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and the Rotary Club in Galesburg. Visitation will be 11 to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, social distancing, limited occupancy, and face masks will be enforced. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made in Pete’s memory to the Galesburg Athletic Booster Club.
