Theodore R. "Ted" Mellican

Theodore R. “Ted” Mellican, 85, of Galesburg, died on Monday, July 23, 2018, 10:15 PM, at Kindred Hospital in Peoria.  Ted was born on February 20, 1933 in Cameron. He was the son of Francis and Bernadine (Noonan) Mellican. Ted married the love of his life, Marilyn Norquist, on June 2, 1956. Together they shared sixty-two years of marriage. Ted is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three children, Stephen of Washington, Sarah and Scott both of Galesburg; a sister, Joan (Robert) Dickson of Florida; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John Mellican and Robert Eugene “Gene” Mellican.  Ted was a 1951 graduate of Galesburg High School. He attended Brown’s Business College. Ted is a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a corporal in the US Army.  He was a book keeper for Galesburg Lincoln Mercury Nissan for 37 years, retiring in 2007. Ted was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. He was also a past member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 285 and the Illinois Police Association. Ted had a very easygoing spirit and never knew a stranger. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Cremation rites will be accorded. Rosary will be prayed on Friday, July 27, 2018, 9:30 AM at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the funeral home. Memorial mass will be at 11:00 AM at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial of cremated remains will follow after services. Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory have been entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to St. Vincent De Paul or Corpus Christi Church.
