Theortrice Young, Jr.

Theortrice Young, Jr., 72, of Galesburg, died Thursday, December 15, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

He was born February 28, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Theortrice and Ruby (Mapps) Young, Sr. Theortrice graduated from Cregier Vocational High School and then went on to earn his certification in auto-mechanics from DeVry Technical Institute. He also attended Malcolm X College. Theortrice proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at McDonald’s and as a taxi driver for a time, eventually working as a mechanic for the Chicago Transit Authority. He would later work as a bus driver for First Student in Galesburg.

Theortrice is survived by two sons: Corey Young, Jr. of Chicago, and Theortrice Janis; two daughters: Matrice Young of Iowa City, Iowa, and Christal Young-Pierce of San Antonio, Texas; and several grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Joseph Young; and four sisters: Deborah Tillman, Carol (Carl) Adams, Annette (Sherman) Williams, and Pamela (Mike) Wesson. He was preceded in death by his parents and his longtime companion, Marie Mack.

Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
