Thomas A. O'Connor

Thomas A. O’Connor, Sr.,  82, of 1002 Northwood Dr., Galesburg, died at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday January 10, 2007 at Seminary Manor.   Thomas was born on January 28, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Peter J. and Agnes McGinn O’ Connor.  He married Betty Colclaser on March 30, 1974 in Florida.  She survives.  Also surviving Thomas are one son, Thomas (Sharon) of Irvine, CA; 3 daughters:  Sharon O’Connor of Dallas, TX, Michelle (Peter) Bjorkman of Marshalltown, IA, and Angie (Wayne) Miles of Galesburg; 2 stepsons:  Randy (Carol) Devlin of Galesburg and Stan (Lou) Devlin of Houston, TX; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was one sister.   Thomas graduated from St. John’s University.  He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.  He was the CFO at Cottage Hospital for 17 years, retiring in 1989.  He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Father J.O. Hunt Council 556, member and former board member of Lake Bracken County Club.   Thomas enjoyed golfing and had his first hole in one at age of 81 on #7 at Lake Bracken Country Club.  He enjoyed all sports and crossword puzzles.  Memorial Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, with the Reverend Ernest Pizzamiglio officiating.  Visitation will be from 3 – 5 p.m. Saturday at Watson Funeral Home.  Memorials may be made to Relay for life or the Alzheimer’s memory walk.
