Thomas Lee Howerter, 75, of Galesburg, died at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born to Harry LaVerne and Mildred Elvera (Johnson) Howerter, Sr. on February 27, 1949 in Galesburg. Thomas was reared and educated in Galesburg, graduating from high school in 1967. After graduating, he proudly served in the United States Army National Guard. Thomas then married Connie Maude Corbin on June 8, 1969 in Galesburg.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Connie Howerter of Galesburg; two sons, Scott (Mila) Howerter and Christopher (Tobie Webb) Howerter, both of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and one daughter, Tonia (Shawn) Maloy of Galesburg. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren: Morgan, Cole, Jaycie, Marissa, Jacob, Nicholas, Natalie, Nathan, Walker, Madelyn, and Emma; five great grandchildren: Kamdyn, Korbyn, RynnLeigh, Roman, and Scottlyn; and one great grandchild soon to make their arrival; three brothers: Harry Howerter, Jack Howerter, and Danny (Carol) Howerter, all of Galesburg; and a godson, CJ Spring. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Thomas was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg. He had many jobs in his life some including Winkler’s Standard, United States Postal Service, and Gothenburg Chrysler. Lastly, he worked for Century Link for about 35 years, until his retirement in 2008. Thomas would strive to always keep his hands busy whether it was tinkering around with things in his garage, being a mechanic on cars, wood working, or simply cooking out. He enjoyed being outdoors and camping. Thomas loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Military honors will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at the Thomas Legacy Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Affairs.
