Valeria C. “Val” Deutsch, 97, of Galesburg, died at 11:35 a.m. Monday, October 2, 2017 in Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Val was born August 5, 1920 in Jordan, MN the daughter of Leonard M. and Caroline (Krautkremer) Scheiderhan. She married Leo P. Deutsch on September 22, 1944 in Jordan, MN. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1997. Val is survived by one daughter, Mary (Jamey) Halpin of Naples, FL; one son, Tom (Julia Giles) Deutsch of Cameron; one granddaughter, Amy (Brad) Manley of Denver; and three great grandchildren, Ashton, Karissa, and Daynen Manley. Along with her husband and parents, Val was preceded in death by two brothers. Val loved spending time outdoors. She had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She loved gardening, walking, and fishing. Val also enjoyed baking as well as sewing. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Ladies of Mary. Memorial Funeral Mass for Val will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Rev. Msgr. Ernest Pizzamiglio will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. Memorials may be made to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or the Ladies of Mary.
