Valerie Jo Cozad

Wataga, Ill - Valerie Jo Cozad, 58, went home to be with Jesus on the afternoon of July 14, 2016. She was born on November 18, 1957, in Galesburg, Ill, to Walter and Ventura Maciel. Valerie married the love of her life, James (Mike) Cozad on May 14, 1976. They recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. Valerie was a stay-at-home mom and treasured the time she spent raising their three children, who include their son, Jason Cozad; daughter, Ayla Nemeth; and daughter, Yvette Cullum (married to Steve). Valerie loved God with all her heart and was a prayer warrior. Her artistic abilities were evident throughout her entire life. She was skilled with a paint brush and often created works of art on her husband’s woodwork. One of Valerie’s greatest joys was tending to her flower gardens that were acclaimed for their beauty. Valerie enjoyed keeping a tidy home and cooking for her family. She was well known for her tostadas and country ribs. In her spare time, she could be found perusing the shops on Seminary Street in Galesburg and enjoying a cup of Spinach Bisque. Valerie is preceded in death by her father. Survivors include mother, husband, children, son-in-law, three sisters, and two brothers. Memorial service will be Sunday, July 17, 2016, at New Life Fellowship in Wataga at 2:00p.m. with Pastor Charles Hass officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Life Fellowship (310 W. Willard St., Wataga, IL 61488). Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.
