Virgil Scott “Scotty” Morgan, 51, of Galesburg, passed away at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2025 at his home.

He was born June 28, 1973 in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Wilbur and Sharon (Guetel) Morgan. Scotty graduated in 1992 from Union High School in Biggsville, Illinois. He worked at Walmart in Galesburg for over 15 years. Scotty married Melissa Hainline on July 17, 1999 at the Biggsville United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 25 years, Melissa Morgan of Galesburg; two daughters, Marlena Hainline and Destiny Hainline, both of Galesburg; one foster son, Emmerson Hainline of Galesburg; and two granddaughters, Raelynn Hainline and Elizabeth Hainline. Also surviving is two sisters, Mandy Trafton of Oquawka, Illinois, and Jessica Pates of Galesburg; his bonus parents who raised him, Paul and Debbie Carnes of Oquawka; his bonus siblings: Paul Carnes and Cassie Jern, both of Oquawka, and Leslie Carnes of Smithshire, Illinois; one aunt, Shelley Pate (Chuck) Shirey; one sister-in-law, Tammy Hainline; and his beloved dog, Mordicai. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Frances Huss; his maternal grandma, Nellie Pate; and his bonus grandma, Georgia Kenney.

When he was younger, Scotty participated in Boy Scouts where he enjoyed going on camping trips to Camp Eastman. Growing up he played football. Scotty was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, his favorite song was ‘Barracuda’ by Heart, and he had a fascination of motorcycles. In his free time, he loved visiting Oquawka. Scotty was a foodie and was grateful for every delicious meal Melissa made for him. Most of all, his devotion and pride to his country and family meant the world to him.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Watson Thomas Funeral Home to assist with expenses.
