Voyne Alfred Hester, 91, of Galesburg, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg. Voyne was born March 22, 1926 in Sayre, OK, the son of Robert Alfred and Elva Lois (Alexander) Hester. He married Nora Lee Earnestine Poling on June 15, 1957 in Amarillo, TX. Voyne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Earnestine of Galesburg; one son, Col. Robert (Jeanne) Hester of Wichita, KS; three daughters, Linda (Robert) Mayers of Ashland, OR, Priscilla Yvonne (Michael) Abell of Amarillo, TX, and Gwendolyn (Richard) Humes of Galesburg; along with nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Voyne was preceded in death by his parents. Voyne began his long career with the railroad at FWD and later working in Wyoming. He eventually moved to Galesburg to work as a road foreman for the C.B.&Q. Railroad and retired from Burlington Northern Railroad on October 1, 1981. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a life member of Alpha Masonic Lodge #155 A.F.&A.M. Voyne was also a member and past worthy patron of the Eastern Star. As well as a longtime member of Engineers Local 644. Voyne and Earnestine enjoyed many years of traveling together. In his free time he enjoyed tending to his yard and garden and also enjoyed woodworking. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Pastor John Carlson will officiate. A celebration of life will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed in Voyne’s memory to Bethany Baptist Church or Camden’s Comfort Project.
