William L. “Bill” Skinner, 76, of Galesburg, died peacefully at 2:37 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg, with his family by his side. Bill was born May 5, 1943 in Galesburg, the son of Everett Lysle and Lelah Pearl (Slagel) Skinner. Bill is survived by one daughter, Allison Skinner of Galesburg; two sons, Dale (Jeanne) Skinner of Galesburg and Aaron (Tanya) Skinner of Knoxville; and one brother Dan (Teresa) Skinner of St. Augustine. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Laney Wong, Brooklyn McLaughlin, Matthew (Alexandra), Morgan, Grace, Christian, Samuel, Layla, and Elsie Skinner; along with one great grandson, Julian Harris. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a son in law, Stefan McLaughlin. Bill served in the National Guard for six years. He graduated from Western Illinois University with a Master of Science Degree in Art. Bill worked in casting at Abingdon Pottery for many years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He enjoyed antiques, cooking, and cats. Bill enjoyed working with his hands, making pottery, jewelry, tending to his yard and flowers, as well as gardening. He also enjoyed giving to charitable causes. Cremation rites will be accorded. Graveside memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 2019 at East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg. Pastor Jim Reynolds will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by VFW/American Legion/AMVETS Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Humane Society.
