William J. "Billy" Johnson

William James “Billy” Johnson, 59, of Galesburg, died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, 9:18 am, at his home in Galesburg.  Billy was born on May 31, 1958. He was the son of James and Evelyn (Parmenter) Johnson. He married Mary Varnold in Galesburg, November of 1995. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2015. Billy is survived by his step daughter, Karissa Soper of Galesburg; brother, Richard (Dorie) Johnson of Gilson; two sisters, Kathryn (Scott) Ward and Jo Lynn Lewis both of Galesburg; one grandson, Cash Scott, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.  Billy was a 1976 graduate of Knoxville High School. He worked for the Local 538 as a laborer for 30 years and then at Galesburg Castings until his retirement. Billy loved to ride dirt bikes when he was younger. He also loved to fish and spend time with his family and friends. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Billy was loved dearly by his family and friends, and his absence will be truly missed.  Per Billy’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials in Billy’s honor may be donated to the family in care of Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, 1849 N. Seminary Street, Galesburg, IL 61401.
