Mr. Willis Edmund Weech, 96, of Galesburg, died at 1:35 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Willis was born March 21, 1923 in Oneida, the son of Edmund C. and Anna E. (Nelson) Weech. He married Anna I. Callister on December 27, 1945 in Roseville. Willis is survived by his wife of 73 years, Ann of Galesburg; one son, Larry (Paula) Weech of Tucson, AZ; one daughter Connie DeBaugh of Richmond, VA; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Leafgreen of Galesburg and Louann Johnston of Altona. Willis was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. Willis served as an Infantryman in the US Army during WWII from December 9, 1944 to August 1, 1946. He worked on the neighbors farm for several years. He then worked as a welder at John Deere and retired from Maytag in 1985. Willis was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church where he sang in the church choir for 28 years. He was a 10 year member of the Galesburg Noon Lion’s Club and an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. Willis enjoyed his family as well as nature, especially birds, flowers, and gardening. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019 at First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial with military rites will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Memorials may be made in Willis’ memory to the First United Methodist Church.
