Yvonne M. Martin

Yvonne M. Martin, 84 of Galesburg, died on Sunday, November 4, 2018, 12:33 AM, at the Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville.  Vonnie was born on September4, 1934, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She was the daughter of Paul and Dorothy (Frowney) Niggemeyer. Vonnie married Robert L. Martin on August 21, 1954. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on September 22, 2014. Vonnie is survived by her son, Terry Martin of Gilson; a sister, Amelda Wyatt of Kansas City, MO; and two grandsons, Terris Martin and Travis Martin, both of Galesburg. Along with her husband, Vonnie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Dorothy Carl; and a brother, Richard Niggemeyer.  Vonnie worked at the Hotel Custer. She was also a Jury Commissions Clerk for the Knox County 9th Judicial District for 28 years, retiring on August 23, 1996. Vonnie also worked as a book keeper of the Galesburg Transit, Inc. while Robert and herself were owners. Vonnie was a member of Corpus Christi Church, and was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was also a charter member for the Habitat for Humanity in Knox County, and a member of the ALTRUSA Club. Vonnie loved flowers and spending time in her flower garden; but most of all she loved to spend time with her family and friends.  A visitation is planned on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, from 4 – 7 pm, at Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Rosary will be prayed at 7 pm. Cremation rites will be accord following visitation. A private family burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted with Watson-Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Memorials may be donated to Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Corpus Christi Parish and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul invite you to a Memorial Mass for Vonnie Martin at Corpus Christi chuch on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 9 a.m.  Join them in honoring her years of service to her church and her community.
